New Digital Radiography (X-Rays)
We have upgraded our imaging capabilities with the addition of a Sound-Elkin TruDR digital radiography unit. Shown above is one of the first patients we radiographed - a tortoise who had ingested some interesting objects.
Why upgrade?
1. The digital images are the highest quality and, using the software, we can zoom in and even adjust the contrast, if necessary. This helps decrease the number of films we take, as no adjustments can be performed on plain films.
2. The images are generated much quicker - in approximately 3 seconds, compared to 3-5 minutes per film with a regular processor. This makes us more efficient and decreases the amount of time your pet stays for radiographs!
3. All images are stored on our PACS server and easily retrieved within seconds. We can digitally send the images for consult with a veterinary radiologist in seconds, as opposed to a week or more turn-around time with standard films. This is especially important for emergency cases.
4. We are much more environmentally friendly - no more processor chemicals and chemical waste!
Which unit do we have?
We chose the Sound-Elkin TruDR unit for several reasons. The TruDR unit uses the largest format Medical Flat-Panel Digital Detector to provide instant digital images with unprecedented diagnostic image enhancements. Used with our standard x-ray machine (Innovet Select), images are generated within seconds and are ready for review, magnification, technical adjustment, measurement, and enhancement. Within seconds, the images can be viewed in our examination rooms, on-line, and on easily generated CDs. Below are several examples of radiographs we have generated in the last week.
